France

France is one of five essays written in the months before James's final illness on the First World War. It was composed as part of a fundraising venture in aid of ”The French Parliamentary Committee’s Fund for the Relief of the Invaded Departments.” It was later collected in the volume Within the Rim, and Other Essays, 1914-1915.
