• More than 35 million people are admitted to hospitals in the US each year
• One third (34%) of seriously ill patients require considerable caregiving assistance from a family member. In 20% of cases, a family member has to quit work or make another major life change to provide care for the patient.
• A brain aneurysm ruptures every 18 minutes in the US (in excess of 30,000 occur each year). Ruptured brain aneurysms are fatal in about 40% of cases, and of those who survive, about 66% suffer some permanent neurological deficit. Approximately 15% of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) die before reaching the hospital.
