I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You
The New York Times : The Cheat (August 15, 2014)

“I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You” is less a study of a marriage dissolving, or even of a man dissolving, than a lament for what is damaged possibly beyond repair.

I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You is an awkward first novel, but if it weren’t it would somehow be disingenuous to its own literary ambitions of embracing the mess of our lives and welcoming it into our homes, calling the mess a work of art.

With this warm, reflective novel, Maum seems to be nodding sagely at what we know to be true: Life is a mess, it’s always a mess, and the struggle to be a better person goes on forever.

I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You is filled with humor, as well as painful yearning. There is much heart in Courtney Maum’s debut page-turning novel, making it a terrifically satisfying and memorable read.

The not-terribly-sharp humor is more enjoyable than the predictable plot shot through with sentimentality.
