The procedural and courtroom scenes are the best part of this and other Connelly thrillers, because they are genuinely thrilling.

Mr. Connelly may not be a perfect wordsmith, but he brings down the hammer of justice with unequivocal power.

Not much of a thriller or a mystery, but illuminating about the ways in which the law works and doesn’t.
