Fun fact learned from this book: “Abracadabra” is a word from Aramaic, the ancient language spoken by Jesus, and it means “I create what I speak”. A good incantation for writers, I assume. Hoffman must say it every morning.

I might have started The Rules of Magic excited to finally experience the Owens family in print but finished the novel confused and highly disappointed.

The Rules of Magic shows that sometimes the work you do comes back to you threefold — and sometimes you go back to the work you've done, and unfold three times more color from it.
