She is undoubtedly a writer of great skill and imagination, but this novel feels as if it hasn’t quite fully evolved.

I couldn’t help wondering what was in the pages that Erdrich cut, and whether, had this book not been brought out so quickly, the loose ends might have come together in a more satisfying way.

Future Home of the Living God not only lives up to Ms. Erdrich’s reputation and surpasses it.
