This is a book about choice and destiny, smothering family ambition and the pull of a young person’s nascent identity. You’re just going to have to trust me that the cricket is worth it.

Readers who expected Adiga to hit a sophomore slump with his previous novel must have been either sorely disappointed or pleasantly surprised that the author could produce an achievement on par with his first novel.

Selection Day is not a novel you read to find consolation from the melancholy realities of the world’s injustices, but to know them, and feel Manju’s scorn.
